Prepare to Move to A Different Beat!
First All Chinese Event at The Fringe
There is something in the air right now in Edinburgh and it has a distinctly Chinese flavour to it!
It’s time to forget what you think you know about musical theatre and prepare to be thrilled by the most talked about new show at The Fringe.
Drum Drama , running from Aug 4th to 24th, is the first national performance group from China ever to perform in Edinburgh. Lavished with awards and widespread acclaim, this spectacular show has exploded onto the Arts scene and has quickly gained a reputation as a must see event.
Drum music is performed via skilled artists whose effortless agility and talent neatly disguises years of disciplined training. The powerful sounds of the drums are used to express various historic Chinese tales- watch as the rhythm of the drums capture the essence of the story and you will find yourself transported back to the ancient mystery of the Orient. Originating from Jiangzhou in the Shanxi province of China, this show is drenched in history and this sound, never before heard in Europe, is now available to all in Edinburgh in 2008.
Having toured all over the world, Drum Drama has impressed audiences and critics alike with its diverse sound, stunning visuals and exciting performers. The energy and enthusiasm of the performers is infectious and the audience is gripped by what unfolds in front of their eyes. This is impressive stuff from start to finish and you will leave knowing you have witnessed something truly unique.
This show is also a feast for the eyes, with atmospheric, mood-setting light and sound, drums of all sizes and many of the performers wear traditional Chinese clothing connected to the culture and heritage of the performance.
A show of such quality, visual flair and rich cultural texture comes along only once in a while. So try something new this festival season and you will be surprised and delighted to find that you will still be talking about this show long after it is over!
Drum Drama runs from August 4th to 24th in 1A Market Street, City Centre at 4pm and 7 30pm
